Ateshgah and Yanar Dag

Your 3-hour journey through the philosophical and holy center of Zoroastrians begins at Ateshgah Fire Temple 30 km distance from the city center. You have two options to choose the time of tour (morning/afternoon). Meet your English-speaking guide in the hotel/hostel lobby and head out to mystic fire temple in Surakhani town. One of the more unique and popular tourist sites in Baku is the Zoroastrian Fire worshipping temple. The Baku Ateshgah was a pilgrimage and philosophical center of Zoroastrians from Northwestern Indian Subcontinent, who were involved in trade with the Caspian area via the famous "Grand Trunk Road". The pentagonal complex, which has a courtyard surrounded by cells and an altar in the middle that was built during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Afterward, we will keep going to the mysterious Yanar Dag ( Burning Mountain). It is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. Yanar Dag is one of the most popular tourist places of Azerbaijan. The historical name of the country which is the land of fire comes from these holy centers of Baku.
