Pass By: Basilica de Santa Maria del Pi, Plaza Del Pi, 7, 08002 Barcelona Spain
Antònia, the biggest of the six bells that crown the octagonal belfry of the church of Santa Maria del Pi can be heard ringing out all around Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. We can now take a closer look at the church of Santa Maria, which nestles between the picturesque squares, the Plaça del Pi and Plaça Sant Josep Oriol.
A church stood on this site as long ago as the 5th century but the current basilica of Santa Maria del Pi was built between 1319 and 1391, in the Catalan Gothic style. It comprises a single nave, with side chapels between buttresses. The cross-vaulted ceiling, which is one of the highest in the country, gives a true sense of monumental scale. Four of the stained-glass windows are original and were created by one of the finest stained-glass artists of the Catalan baroque period, Josep Ravella. One of the foremost painters of the day, Antoni Viladomat, also worked on the windows. The large rose window is an exact copy of the 14th-century original and was made by Josep Maria Jujol after the Spanish Civil War. It is one of the largest in Catalonia. Inside the church is a 14th-century Gothic image of the figure of the Virgin of the Pines. The church also has a museum which houses an important collection of gold and silverware and some outstanding medieval funeral escutcheons which are unique to Catalonia.
It is said that a pine forest once stood on this site of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, and, indeed, a pine tree still stands in front of the church. At the side of the church, the Ave Maria doorway features some Romanesque elements of the previous church. The church of Santa Maria del Pi houses the remains of many members of Barcelona's nobility and the remains of the most Barcelonian of saints, Sant Josep Oriol, who was a priest at this famous church.
Let yourself be captivated by the charms of the Plaça del Pi and the Plaça Sant Josep Oriol where some 40 painters exhibit their works every weekend.

Great 5 people, small group tour by WeBarcelona. We learned some interesting facts from our guide, got to see historical neighborhoods. Quick but very cool ride along the costal line and nice boat tour.
Our guide, Oscar, was good fun to be with and very knowledgeable about Barcelona. He even gave tips on where we should visit. Helicopter ride was a great way to finish this group tour, overall a very good experience and would defo recommend it.
Mark is a brilliant guide and went out of his way to assist. Very knowledgeable with perfect English. For something different to do in Barcelona this fits the bill. Arthur
The tour guide, Marco was great but the overall tour was not so. Both the boat cruise and helicopter flight had no commentary whatsoever and the helicopter flight was not 6 minutes long but more like 4 minutes and had a wait time of at least an hour before boarding. Very disappointed.
The entire excursion was perfect. The van was clean and new. Helicopter was a smooth ride and a short wait. And the boat was a well-appointed classic with a beautiful wood deck.If you get the option, choose Daria as your guide. She is SO pleasant and knowledgeable.
Our guide Nadine has awesome facts whereever we visited. She is attentive to everyone, great with people, approachable. Very good overall! Highly recommended!
Worth every penny!! A must if in the city!! Tour guide very informative and a very nice man! And very helpful!! Best thing ever done
The tour group was led by David, it was a small group which meant it was easy to follow and understand his presentations. Whilst explaining the landmarks, he also provided the myths and legends behind them, adding to the experience rather than just providing dates and historical facts. The helicopter ride was amazing and therefore it was the quickest 6 minutes I have experienced in a while. The only negative of it was that due to weight restrictions and only having a smaller helicopter at the time, my partner and I had to split up and ride separately. However, David compensated for this by having us sit in the front seat which provided a much better viewing experience with no obstructions. I'd definitely recommend the tour and David.
Definitely my unforgettable experience and the highlight of my vacation in Barcelona!! Everyone should experience this
Great to see the city. Hop on and off when you like. The staff could be more friendly and happier
