Your profession hiking guide will pick you up at departure point at 8:30am. After about 2 hours driving, you will arrive the Xishanzi village in Huairou county. Walk across the village and hike for about 1 hour, then you will approach the Due North Tower of Jiankou Great Wall. As climbing the tower, look towards the west, you will have a breathtaking view of Jiankou section. When look to the east side, you will see the Niujijiaobian, which is amazing.

After hiking another 40 minutes, you will arrive at the Niujijiaobian. This section of Great Wall is steep and dangerous, with small stones falling all the time. You shall divert this section and go back on the Great Wall after 15 minutes walking on a path instead. On the road, you will break, and you will be offered some free snack from the tour guide.

Keep hiking for another 30 minutes, you finally reach the Mutianyu No.23 Tower where the renovated Great Wall begins. At the end there is a slide rail, and you will continue hiking for 4 to 5 hours from here. After finishing hiking, you will have lunch meal near in a local Chinese restaurant near by Mutianyu Great Wall.

Combining unrestored, quiet "wild wall" of Jiankou with the beautiful restored but much more popular Mutianyu, you really get the best of both words. Our guide Peter appointed by Greatwall Trek Club only further enhanced the experience by being personable and committed to excellent service. He is the only guide in our China travels to come right up to our hostel instead of making us walk to a bigger hotel for pickup. He provided snacks and water, helped take some photos, and generally provided great conversation and recommendations.

My wife and I absolutely loved our tour! We hiked from the unrestored part of the wall Jiankou to the most restored Mutianyu. I think this is absolutely the best way to see the wall.The tour makes this possible. The unrestored part would probably be impossible to find without a tour guide. The tour is totally worth just that! Not having to worry about driving, finding an untouched part of the wall, and the knowledge of our guide was totally worth it. James our driver and our guide Oliver were incredible and paced things perfectly for us. They also took us out for a local meal after the hike which was great! This is the best way to see the great wall. Period. Warning: the first part of the hike up to the wall is difficult about an hour but afterwards it becomes an incredible hike with amazing views--it's totally worth it!
