Exploring Budapest through its food and drinks is the best way to do it! Our food, wine, and cultural walking tour begins at The Central Market Hall - one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular indoor markets - and continues through the charming nearby neighbourhood. Be sure to come with an appetite. You will need it on this tour!
At the Central Market Hall we will begin getting acquainted with Hungarian cuisine through the great variety and abundance of ingredients (which are mostly local and seasonal) on display. We will discuss the history of the building, the culture of eating and drinking in Hungary, and the everyday cooking and eating habits. The tour also includes an introduction to Hungarian paprika and will reveal why it is so special, how Hungarian cooks use it, and how it is produced. After tasting a few carefully selected things at the market, we will head out to the surrounding neighbourhood and visit a few more places. Lunch will be at a traditional restaurant, where we will taste a special Hungarian spirit as well. No day in Budapest is complete without dessert, so we will also stop at a cafe visited only by locals to taste some very special local dumplings.
The tour will end with a tasting of three quintessential Hungarian wines. During the tasting your guide will introduce you to the Hungarian wine regions, varietals, and styles. This tour will give you a taste of the traditional side of Hungarian cuisine, as well as the modern artisan producers and speciality food shops of the area.
We try our very best to cater for dietary requirements but due to local food customs we cannot guarantee that this will be possible in all cases. Options for vegetarians, guests with allergies and religious dietary restrictions may be very limited.

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in beautiful Budapest - a very knowledgeable guide (thank you so much Kristi), wonderful tastes in the market and then coffee and cake and finally a wine tasting. All Hungarian and all worth every penny - great value for money.
Katar our guide was right on time, and met us with bottled water. Our tour through the big food hall provided us wth opportunities to try six different types of sausage, several pickled items and an overview of the food court, then it was off to lunch. We ate at a small side walk cafe for goulash with heavy bread, yum. After a lovely lunch we were moving again, this time to dessert. Túrógombóc, a dessert made from cottage cheese, beautiful and delicious. Next on to a wine bar for a selection of local wines, the bar was calledDiablo and was charming. The wines were excellent.
It rained and we were all miserable..to many people couldn't hear well and it was kind of boring
Great tour of Budapest, our tour guide was extremely friendly and knowledge about the city. I recommend this as a wonderful half day activity to learn more about Hungarian food and people.
Our tour guide was Kristina who took us to the Market Hall to taste some Hungarian meats and pickles which were very tasty. We then went for a hearty soup at a restaurant and dessert at a further restaurant. Kristina explained when and how Hungarians liked to eat this type of food. We finished with a wine tasting in a trendy bar in the ruin pubs area. Throughout the tour Kristina told us about Hungarian traditions, life in Hungary and where we should also visit. At the end we felt we had spent the day with a delightful friend. We would highly recommend this tour and particularly Kristina
This was an excellent tour - our guide Ferenc was very knowledgeable not just about the gastro part of the tour but also about Hungarian history and current cultural issues. I would highly recommend this guide to you if you are looking for a high value experience.
We had the most wonderful tour. Our guide Eva was great and gave us great insight into the history, wine and food of Budapest. We had a great variety of food and drinks to taste and also a great lunch at the Butchers shop. Would highly recommend.
