Stop At: Rabbie's Cafe Bar, 6 Waterloo Pl, Edinburgh EH1 3EG, UK
Meet here for boarding 15 mins before the published departure time.
Duration: 15 minutes
Stop At: Jedburgh Abbey Visitor Centre Abbey Bridge End, Jedburgh TD8 6JQ Scotland
A beautiful market town that Mary Queen of Scots famously visited. Optional visit to the Abbey.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Carter Bar, Jedburgh Scotland
Continuing south we make a stop at the scenic Carter Bar on the edge of the Cheviot Hills. This crossing point between Scotland and England runs close to the ancient Roman road and has formed the border between the two countries for the past 700 years.
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: Steel Rigg, Henshaw, Hexham NE477AN England
Hadrian’s Wall - The wildest and most northerly frontier of the ancient Roman Empire.
We follow the road that takes us along the south side of the wall, stopping at Steel Rigg. You have time to walk beside the wall and experience the isolation that Roman foot soldiers would have experienced as they guarded their empire from the ‘barbarians’ to the north.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Vindolanda Vindolanda Bardon Mill, Hexham NE47 7JG England
Vindolanda is one of Europe's most important Roman archaeological sites. Vindolanda means white lawns or white fields. We know that the Roman name for the fort was Vindolanda because of an altar set up by the civilians at Vindolanda to the god Vulcan which was found during drainage works in 1914. The altar is on display in the museum. The name Vindolanda has also been discovered on some of the writing tablets. (closed in January).
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Birdoswald Roman Fort, Gilsland, Brampton CA8 7DD England
Here you can still see the remains of all of the Wall's defining features. Stand in awe as the longest remaining stretch of the Wall spans as far as your eye can see, and explore the ruins of the Roman fort, a turret and milecastle.

The knowledge of the tour guide was impressive to say the least. One thing not appreciated is the stated opinion, by the tour guide, regarding American politics. In this case the opinion was visceral dislike to hatred when it came to the office of the president. That office is to be respected, period. Then there is the fact that the current President was elected by a significant margin. Lastly one needs to ask why this President was elected. This President was elected because the Congress has done NOTHING to address the major issues over the last decades, leaving the public, the voter, in a position to voice their dismay. That was clearly what occurred. Study the "why" and you will see the result, gross incompetence by the Congress, which elected a non-politician. semper Fi.
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. Robbie was a great host. He was also very sweet and accommodating, he helped me access the stops by pulling closer without even being asked which was very ( I have some mobility issues due to an injury ) The tour was fun and informative and full of nice little surprises.. We loved that Robbie had music picked out for us as well. Over all it was a great value and we will look at other tours from Rabbies our next trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this trip. Jan was a fantastic guide! He regaled us with Scottish stories and lore during the ride. The ruins of the wall was set amid pastures and farmland and was breath taking! We stopped at charming villages along the way. Before we took off he warned us that if anyone did not appreciate history and ancient ruins, then you probably wouldnt enjoy this. We do love history and ruins and enjoyed every minute!!!
Great educational and entertaining tour of the area south of Edinburgh and the north of England. Richard gave us a great overview of the history of the border areas between Scotland and England, the reivers and how that shaped the character of the people. Jedburgh Abbey was fascinating to visit, and we loved seeing Hadrian's wall and Vindolanda with its archeological treasures. Seeing the countryside and hearing the history and culture at the same time is such a great way to see the countryside.
The husband and I learned so much on this tour. Rabbie’s goes above all expectations, when compared to other tour companies!
This was a fantastic tour. The Only drawback was I forgot my camera on this day.
Walking along Hadrian's Wall and seeing an ancient Roman fort ruin is chance of a lifetime. Other sites worth visiting as well. Great tour.
This tour was amazing!
I could not praise our tour guide Sean more! Sean was a history teaching before switching to tours and let me tell you that made ALL the difference on this tour with Rabbie's. You could tell how much Sean loved Scottish and English history. He knew so much about the time period the wall was build and clearly wanted to share that love with us on his tour. The Mercedes van was really comfy and we had a smaller group. Be prepared to hike around in possibly mud. It was winter for us so we brought lots of layers too as it was quite chilly outside. This was a fun day trip out from Edinburgh. We loved seeing the wall and learning about this time period in Scotland's history. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone interested in seeing the wall.
Good tour
