Marseille Shore Excursion: Private Tour of Aix-en-Provence and South Luberon Villages

When your cruise ship docks at the Marseille port, your guide will pick you up from the cruise terminal by luxury minivan and whisk you away on your private shore excursion. You'll start by traveling inland to the small Provencal town of Aix-en-Provence, known for its magnificent streets lined with opulent 17th-century houses.

Hop out to admire Aix's finest architecture on a stroll along the leafy Cours Mirabeau boulevard, where you’ll see the ornate mansions that typify the street’s grandeur. Continue walking along the quaint streets of Aix’s lovely Old Town, filled with boutiques, craft shops and public squares.

If you're an art lover, you can head inside the Cézanne Studio (own expense) to learn about Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne and see numerous artifacts that inspired the artist when he worked in Aix. Alternatively, you can choose to continue exploring the city independently.

Take a break for lunch in town on your own before reconvening with your guide and leaving Aix for the Luberon. The beautiful south Luberon region is a gorgeous Provencal area filled with mountains and valleys and peppered with tiny cliff-top villages and windswept vineyards that showcase rural France at its best.

Drive through the area and stop at two of these postcard-worthy villages to walk around and take photos. The exact villages vary, but you may visit Cucuron, Lauris or Loumarin.

Enjoy an afternoon exploring the Luberon's delights at your leisure, returning to Marseille in the evening.
