Stop At: Harburg Castle, 86655, Harburg, Bavaria Germany
Your private guide will pick you up at your hotel. First, we drive to Harburg Castle, Looming over the Wörnitz River. The medieval Castle covered by parapets, towers, turrets, keep and red-tiled roofs of the 12th-century. Schloss Harburg is so perfectly preserved they almost seem like a film set.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Haus der Geschichte Dinkelsbuhl, Altrathausplatz 14, 91550 Dinkelsbuhl, Bavaria Germany
From there, we continue the Romantic Road to immaculately preserved Dinkelsbühl. Which proudly traces its roots to a royal residence founded by Carolingian Kings in the 8th century. Dinkelsbühl was saved from destruction in the Thirty Years War and ignored by WWII bombers. Therefore, it is the Romantic Road’s quaintest and most authentically medieval destination.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Rothenburg Town Hall (Rathaus), Marktplatz, 91541, Rothenburg, Bavaria Germany
Time for Lunch. Then, we head to the jewel of the Romantic Road, Rothenburg ob der Tauber. One of Europe’s best preserved medieval cities. Because the city was on the wrong side of the 30 Years War. Rothenburg escaped damage but was driven into poverty. And since there was no money for development, as a result, the town was preserved.
In addition, we visit the St.James Church greatest treasure: the Altar of the Holy Blood. Was produced in Rothenburg between 1499 and 1505. Maybe time for shopping, and in Rothenburg, we find one of the best Christmas shops in Germany (Käthe Wohlfahrt). Afterward, we drive back to your hotel.

An absolute must if you are in the Munich area!! My friend and I wanted to go up the romantic road so badly we did the private tour with just the two of us an our awesome guide Amir of course! He picked us up promptly at our hotel and our first stop was Harburg Castle. I think theres enough room for up to 7 people. This castle dates back to the 11th century and is absolutely beautiful with a great view of Harburg and the wörnitz river. We have wonderful pictures and loved the fact it isnt jammed with people! Next stop was the historic town of Dinkelsbühl. When my husband saw the pictures, he thought we were on a movie set. The buildings are kept up beautifully- some as old as 1300s. It survived the two world wars without damage and was a delight to walk around, grab a homemade Bavarian pretzel from the bakery and take in the sites. Not much shopping per se but that was no matter because the next stop, Rothenburg Ob der Tauber will blow you away! Not only is this yet another town with an interesting historic past- the restaurants, cafes and shopping could keep you busy for days! In hindsight we wished we had spent the night. My favorite store, Käthe Wohlfahrt, is like Christmas on steroids! My favorite purchase was an authentic cuckoo clock made in the Black Forest. And dont worry about getting it home- this store is so organized they took care of everything no problem! The people are soooo friendly, and again- so much history to listen to while youre walking. I was only sad the day went by so fast: It was a couple hours home but that was fun too as you are on the autobähn watching cars fly by you going 150 mph. As you may know- a tour is only as good as its tour guide... AMIR IS FANTASTIC!!! He is so knowledgeable, friendly, and easy going with what you want to do. A genuinely great person who lives in Bavaria and knows how to make the most of your day. We found out he does a ton of tours in the area and he loves what he does! Thanks for a fantastic day on the Romantic Road Amir! We hope to see you again someday!!
