Landmannalaugar on Big Wheels

1 day
Lisätietoja aktiviteetista
This Super Jeep ride begins in Reykjavik, where we will drive to to Þjórsárdalur Valley and stop at Hjálparfoss waterfall, which translates directly into "Helping Falls" in English. The aptly named region comes from when the first Icelandic settlers arrived and would use this fertile region as a place for their horses to graze and rest. Following Hjálparfoss we set off for the lush farmlands of the lowland region before continuing onwards to the highlands, where we we get to explore the magnificent Icelandic wilderness. On this day Super Jeep ride you will see unforgettable views of gentle rivers on your way to Landmannalaugar, a famous Icelandic natural landmark. We will also stop at the Crater Lake Ljótipollur, formed in 1477 and is now a cobalt-blue deep lake. Before arriving at our main destination, we will also stop at lake Frostastaðavatn. Landmannalaugar is an area created by distinctive and compelling geological elements, including immense lava fields and the multi-coloured rhyolite mountains. With colors from every shade of the rainbow, the mountains ranges fade from pink to brown and green, with hues of of yellow, blue, purple and black in between. Once we arrive at Landmannalaugar, there is time for you to grab some lunch or snacks before we set off on a short hike. Participants also have the option to forgo the hike and go straight to a natural hot spring pool for a relaxing bath. After hiking for about an hour, you can choose to bathe in the pool or discover the area on your own before journeying back to Reykjavik. On the way back to Reykjavik we will embark on the Dómadalur path that brings us pass incredible lava fields and vast mountains ranges, truly a magical and one of a kind natural landscape. In ancient times, Vikings would drown thieves there, binding their hands and feet and throwing them into the falls from the high cliff. Weather conditions permitting, we will also drive to volcano Hekla and take a walk around the lava fields. Given the nickname "the Gateway to Hell" in the Middle Ages, Helka is the most active volcano in Iceland and last erupted in 2000. In the evening we will drive back to Reykjavik. The Geothermal Pool Don't forge to bring a swimsuit and take advantage of the stunning Icelandic natural hot spring pools. The impressive Landmannalaugar has colourful rhyolite mountains extend as far as the eye can see, demonstrating the constant geothermal activity. We hope you make unforgettable memories of Landmannalaugar's unique natural scenery and enjoy seeing Iceland's best all from a thrilling Super Jeep ride. Note: This is "off-road" in the meaning of traveling on already existing, well marked trails in the rugged terrain of the highlands, on unpaved roads. Creating new trails by driving off-road would be illegal, as it would permanently damage the fragile environment.
