The Upper Garden, located between the St Petersburg highway and the Grand Palace, is a typical French-style formal garden with five fountains including one depicting Neptune, the God of the Sea. Peterhof palaces and parks,conceived by the Peter the Great as a seaside residence are unmatched in Europe. Grand Palace is a Grand residence,designed to capture the imagination of foreign visitors, scope and luxury.The cozy" Monplaisir" - the favourite Palace of Peter I(the Emperor did not like large spaces)this is the first picture gallery in Russia.Next is the wing,where Catherine the Great lived,even before becoming Empress and how she went on to do a coup.Everything here is history!
The estate's Lower Park lies between the Grand Palace and the seashore and boasts the world's largest system of fountains, earning it the title the "Russian Versailles". The park's unique fountain system was designed in the 18th century and doesn't require the use of any pumps to operate the fountains.There are three major cascades and over 140 fountains in the park. The most impressive is the Grand Cascade, located directly below the Grand Palace, which features an impressive golden statue of Samson grasping the mighty jaws of the lion. The park's other cascades feature black and white chess board designs, Chinese dragons and numerous other features definitely worth seeing!
After visiting the Palace and walking through the Park you will enjoy a marine boat trip back to the city center. It takes only 30 minutes. Attention,please! On days Grand Palace is closed due to day off or govermens event we are replacing it with Monpleisire or other gala Palace,on days hydrofoils are cancelled due to stormy wether we will substitute it with a car for the way back.

I booked a tour to the palace for a family of four (all adults and your choice of options below are too limited) to visit the palace at 9 am by Hydrofoil. It is more expensive than the one by SUV/bus. Then I got a message from the agent asking if it is OK I considered 10 am tour instead. I said OK to join without being informed that we would travel both ways by SUV/Car. after getting there by car, we asked the tour guide what happened to the Hydrofoil ride. she said she did not know. and she offered to call the office to arrange for Hydrofoil back but we have to carry our back packs all over the palace instead of leaving in the SUV. We declined and take the SUV all the way back. Is this how Viator look after your customer?. I have frequently joined Viator for my day tours in various countries in the past but and this time is really disappointing. we ended up paying more like US$70-80. The palace is great but this arrangement spoiled the tour. very insensitive.
Ali was a great tour guide. We really enjoyed our time at Peterhof. The tour was a good mix of entertainment and education. We had plenty of time to see both the palace and the gardens.
Igor was our English speaking guide and he made our trip carefree and most enjoyable, arranging transport and negotiating queues etc. He has an had extensive knowledge of the Peterhof Palace and its rich history. We marvelled at the authentic layout of the many rooms, all of which take one’s breath away. The exterior was equally impressive with several acres of beautiful gardens, fountains and pathways. After seeing all there was to see, we caught the hydrofoil back to the wharf near the Hermitage. A wonderful experience!
