CURRENT EXHIBITIONS:
Jukebox Jewkbox! A Century on Shellac & Vinyl: This exhibition celebrates the influence of Jewish contributions to music in Australia and abroad – and music’s influence on Jewish life. Visitors will be taken on a journey of the senses through musical history since the 19th century invention of the gramophone and the vinyl record by German Jewish immigrant to the US, Emil Berliner.
The Holocaust: Located over three levels, this exhibition traces the persecution and murder of European Jewry from 1933 to 1945 and explores the contemporary and ongoing resonance of these unprecedented events.
The Holocaust and Human Rights: A capstone to the Holocaust exhibition, The Holocaust and Human Rights outlines human rights achievements and challenges, and focuses on the key human rights issues facing Australia today. The exhibition explores local issues pertaining to the rights of Refugees and Asylum Seekers; People with Disabilities; First Australians; and the LGBTIQ Community.
Serving Australia: The Jewish Involvement in Australian Military History: Portrays the stories of Jewish servicemen and women in the Australian defence forces from its inception to the present.
Culture and Continuity: Journey through Judaism: Explores Jewish history from Biblical origin in the Ancient Near East to the thriving Jewish community in Australia.
VISITOR INFORMATION:
Guided tours: A guided tour is included in the entry fee and runs Monday-Friday at 1pm, and on Sundays at 12pm.
Museum cafe: There is a kosher cafe offering a delicious menu for morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea.
Museum shop: Visit the gift shop for a large range of Judaica and general gift-ware. Stocks a variety of books, including Holocaust Survivor stories.
Getting to the Museum: The Museum is minutes from Kings Cross and Oxford Street, vibrant centres of activity for tourists and locals alike. For public transport timetables ring the Transport Info line on 131500 or visit their website. Street parking is limited and ticketed. Parking is available in St Vincent’s Hospital car park.
