Look for the black umbrella (meeting point) and meet your local guide for this 30 minutes express tour.

The exact meeting location is above the stairs in front of the ticket office. Look for the black umbrella (with Arena skip the line written on it) and do the check in (present your voucher).

Than start the tour. Enter the grand amphitheater Arena, built by the romans during the First century B.C. and walk under the old marble arcades and listen to stories of gladiators and the ancient roman games that use to take place here.

Admire the preserved ‘Ala’ or wing, which is the only piece remaining of the outer third circle.

Hear facts and anecdotes from your professional guide that will teach you the long and extraordinary history of the great theater, which survived an earthquake in the 12th century. The arena is still the city’s favorite Opera Hall, for its unique sound quality and history.

Finish the tour by taking a photo with the spectacular view of the amphitheater in Piazza Bra, to commemorate on the unforgettable experience.

Our Tour Guide was Irene and she was great, she gave us plenty of information about the history of the Arena and it's various uses over the centuries. However, the Arena itself was a bit of a disappointment as there just wasn't that much to see. it may have been due to the timing of our visit as they were busy putting seating away for next summers Opera Season. However if you go along expecting another Rome you will be disappointed. Overall we did not feel this trip was value for money as the whole thing lasted only 30 minutes. That said, we learnt a lot more from Irene than we would have done if we had gone round on our own. Maybe next time a visit when the Opera is on would be a better experience.

This was a fabulous tour with a knowledgeable but not overbearing guide who was friendly from the outset and had to navigate the tour round some terrible weather. She allowed us to drink in the atmosphere of the Arena and provided us with some interesting facts and stories about this fabulous piece of Roman history. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
